I remember having fond memories of playing it; which is why I bought it. But after the first thirty minutes, it felt like a deadbeat and dull experience. The story line is D-tier at best, and I'm being generous. It's such a painstakingly vague yet simple backstory, it's like it's trying to reel in it's viewer with it's "mysterious" plot line and reveals. The story is filled with so much cliche's, it's not even ironically endearing. It's just boring. What I think really takes the cake, is the fact that the game play mechanics don't even make up for the story. When you kill a Walker or finish off a Thug, it doesn't give you any satisfaction or sense of accomplishment. The event that ends up being the most enjoyable is the Prologue, which temporarily allows you to mow down a horde of walkers with a rifle; and even that only felt.. approximately okay. The leveling and upgrade system works very simply, and the upgrades don't get any more interesting than *maybe* a new ability, or just a slight damage/handling upgrade to something that already coexisted in your inventory. The walkers/thugs' attack patterns are extremely easy to follow, but they take such a long time to kill. It's not hard to lose your patience after taking five minutes to kill three zombies. The A.I also act like idiots and deal no damage, so you have to be the piggy-back hero for all of them; which is meticulous and boring. Replaying Dead Island: Riptide on PC has affirmed my decision about this game. It's an extremely underwhelming experience, and I'm ashamed that I blew twenty-bucks to experience nothing but immense disappointment. I didn't even get a good sense of nostalgia from playing it. If this game was free, it wouldn't have been worth the money.. boring and repetitive,,too short. Cons: - Level / Map Design: Level design of this game is one of the worst I have ever experienced. Throughout the game I was stuck in multiple places because I wasnt able to find the way I was supposed to. First part of the game is designed "pretty well" but as you progress it only gets worse. Game becomes one big maze and you spend way too much time going back the way you came because you found another dead end. Its not that much of a big deal but since it happens so frequently it makes game really frustrating. - Quests: Quests are another big flaw of this game, if you do only the main quests you will finish this game in about 3-4 hours maybe even less which is really low considering the game costs 20€ when its not on sale, so to increase your playtime you might want to do some side quests which arent really that good anyway. All side quests are basically 2 different quests 1. Clear area 2. Bring an item(s) to someone and if that's not enough every single quest makes you go across entire map just to make your playtime longer the cheapest way possible. Good example of a quest in this game: Talk to someone, walk across entire map just to find out the thing isnt there, go to another location also located on the other side of the map, take the thing and bring it back to the other side of the map. Yeah its good it only happens in side quests right? Wrong cause lots of main quests are also made like this. Remember when I said it takes about 3-4 hours to finish this game? Scratch that and add another 10 hours worth of gameplay spent entirely only on walking from point A to point B. Bullet sponge: Every single "boss" in the game is basically just a bulletsponge which kills you in 2-3 hits and is also swarmed by regular zombies Game feels like it was rushed : Animations arent that good, And voice acting makes this game look like a joke. Like seriously you can buy Dead Island for the same price and get a 1000x better experience than this. Like the only possible pros I can think of could possibly be story which could be interesting if only the game didnt ruin it with ridiculous animations and voice acting. Also graphics arent that bad but considering this is a "DEFINITIVE Edition" they could've done a better job.Summary: Not worth 20€ wait for a sale, you cant really complain if you got this game for 5€ but this game really isnt worth 20€. Game feels like it was rushed and devs only paid attention to "how to slow the player as much as possible".Also if you have a friend to play with scratch everything above, cause every piece of garbage can be fun with friends. An Excellent game, a great Expansion/Sequel to Dead Island and it improves on A LOT that the first one did bad. VERY WORTH BUYING !!!!. This game. Is a buggy mess of a game. Item interaction bugs, collision bugs of all kinds, instadeath when hitting some random walls, blue screens, you name it. Looks gorgeous though, and the weapons and zombie killing is nice. Now, the reason I'm recommending it.. Find a friend, and play this thing. You will laugh your♥♥♥♥♥off while playing it. It's like watching a bad car crash from close by - everything is on fire, your friend is on fire, you are on fire, but you just can't help but play it and finish it.Will you have fun? Yes, a lot of fun. Will it be a disaster? Yes.Best game 10/10.
